This section of the portal utilizes DeCs, the trilingual vocabulary (English, Portuguese and Spanish) created by BIREME that represents the standard terminology used for both indexing and navigating the VHL information sources such as articles from scientific journals, books, annual conferences, technical reports, and more and for use in the search and retrieval of scientific literature in LILACS, MEDLINE and other databases. This section is available on line. The compatibility with the MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) terminology from NLM (National Library of Medicine) and the commitment with constant updating and translation to Portuguese and Spanish allowed the effective cooperation with the UMLS (Unified Medical Language System, NLM) project in the last years.
